February, a dreaded time full of gloomy weather, no major hunting seasons, and little fishing promise. I should not be so down, yes I could be doing outdoors things as there is always something in-season on the Eastern Shore. However, I have just one focus in mind as I listen to rain bounce off the roof of the porch I sit in. That one thing has become something I tend to see very little of between working in Alaska and coming home for the fall, winter, and spring.
The sun! I am longing for that feeling of warmth not derived by my own body heat. A true sense of external comfort brought on by ambient temperature. My cure to this shadow of grey over my head, is to look forward to seeing something I rarely get the opportunity to do. That is being in clear blue skies, on beaches, and targeting tailing fish.
I will capitalize on the prep work leading up to this future trip to shake these uncanny mid-atlantic blues. I sit here giving my back a rest from leaning over my vice while tying bonefish flies and face-timing my buddy Ben about them. All the sudden a sense of relief has fallen over me. I will be there soon despite booking an incorrect departure date, cancelling, and ultimately re-booking. I will see that sun, I will wade those flats, Turks you are all of the sudden calling my name.
(The coming month will have more information on this trip. Patterns, gear items, tackle, and other important details included).
Moral of the story, do not let time pass you by in a slow month. There is something to prep or plan for. The good times are just ahead! Do not beat yourself up, use your energy to instead catalyze the next big thing. No matter your hobby or time of year, there is something you can do to learn, prepare, or practice for it which will set you up for success in the near future. Best regards,
-Bo
